Ideally an entrepreneur should have crossed the boundaries of fear. But if you are not there and are still scared of taking the step, the post is for you. You will find a lot of posts on internet about overcoming the fear of failure, this is about eliminating them. Read on.

  • Treat failure as opposite of success
  • Treat failure just the opposite of success nothing else. If you were successful once, accept that you might encounter failure too. Just treat it as a success on the downside

  • Make a habit of learning from failure
  • If you consider failure as your teacher, your will have nothing to fear from it. Learning why you made mistakes or what environments caused the failure will make you more conscious of them in future. If you are learning from it, you will even welcome the failure

  • Treat success and failure in equanimity
  • If you don’t let success get to your head, you are probably equipped to allow failure not to put you down. Treating success and failure as two sides of a coin that can throw random results enables you to handle failure

  • Learn that failure hurts more than the success
  • In financial market, small losses in stocks hurt more than the happiness gained by big profits. Start understanding that losses bring more pain that the profits. If you know this fact, you are less affected by it.

  • You cannot control everything
  • You have created a world class product but not been able to sell a single unit of it. It could be because you don’t have sufficient money for market or the timing of your product was simply not right. There could be plenty of reasons and one of it was big enough to cause your downfall. You obviously could control it as much as the fact that you could not have been born in a rich family ;). So don’t worry about it.

  • Counter it with trying again
  • Thomas Alva Edison tried ten thousand times, before he could see the bulb glowing. And you want to achieve success in first try!! At every failure , if you decided to try again, you have got the power to eliminate it.

  • Think how much you have lost
  • Count the cost of failure. It is just some dollars, a lost business and some lost client. You can always earn the money back, win the business with better proposition and clients would take you back if you did great last time. See, you have not lost anything at all. But you learned something, so why not celebrate it.

  • Last, acknowledge that failure has occurred
  • Most of the time, it is an ego problem not to acknowledge failure has occurred. Remember EVERY ONE in this world, including the most successful had plenty of failures on the way. By acknowledging the failure, you have taken its power of manipulation from you. Once you have done that, go back to the top point and start again.

Read some quotes here.
“The only real failure in life is the failure to try.”
“There are no failures – just experiences and your reactions to them.”
“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”
“Try and fail, but don’t fail to try.”

This is why people admire Steve Jobs and some more of the many great leaders. They do experience fear, but they’re just too courageous they continue to do things anyway even if they are afraid and unsure. We all need to acknowledge our fears. This is the only way we can learn to be courageous.
