I won’t myself buy you my loyalty

There is funny thing going in the retail shops these days. If I approach a sales counter with a bag full of items, I am offered a loyalty card depending on the number of items I am going to purchase.

I do not like filling up those forms to get a loyalty card where I have to give my personal information to anyone(including my mobile no.).But, I do get constantly pestered by sales reps to fill the form. If I do decide to fill one, I am told in a very discreet manner that I have to pay Rs. 150 (about $3) and I would get credit of $1.

My first reaction is “wha…”. I have to pay 150 to get 50 back. What kind of economics is that ? You want me to purchase from you or are  you purchasing things from me? Are you asking me to be loyal and show it by paying you?

If you want me to repeat buy at your place you will have to do something special(and that does not include only discount).

I have not filled those forms 100% of time where I have to pay to buy my own loyalty to them . Looks weird, isn’t it.

Whoever things about a scheme like that is definitely confused. It’s a sure fire way to lose customers. It just does not make any sense at all.

Interesting…Even, I have been through similar experiences. I think we all must do the same thing.
